CHEMUNG COUNTY – This past weekend Chemung County District Attorney Weeden Wetmore received the Prosecutor of the Year Award from the New York Prosecutors Training Institute (NYPTI) at the New York District Attorneys' annual Summer Conference, held in Lake Placid.
The Prosecutor of the Year, Trial Advocacy Award, is given to a District Attorney who has demonstrated dynamic trial skills, leadership and selfless dedication to criminal prosecution in the Empire State.Winners are selected from the many nominations that NYPTI receives each year from DA's across the state.
District Attorney Wetmore was nominated by several of his colleagues in other counties and by members of his own staff. In particular, all the nominating letters in support of DA Wetmore cited his dedication and tireless work to ensure that the three people involved in the murder of Kelly Clayton in neighboring Steuben County were all brought to justice and convicted.
“District Attorney Weeden Wetmore is an extremely hard working prosecutor who has tried more than 200 cases to verdict in both civil and criminal courts. He’s committed to serving and protecting the citizens of our community. We are extremely fortunate to have him as our district attorney,” says Chemung County County Executive Tom Santulli.
