ELMIRA – Chemung County Clerk Katie Hughes would like to remind businesses and veterans to enroll in the “Return the Favor” Discount Program – (Find and Assist Veterans of Record). The program offers honorably discharged Veterans discounts at local businesses upon presentation of proof of service in the form of a FAVOR identification card.

Many businesses have already signed up.  If you did not receive a letter in the mail the forms may be found online.  It’s easy to participate and a great way to show our veterans appreciation for their service and sacrifice. The discount or offering by a merchant, restaurant, or service company is of the owner's own choosing and is not determined by the County. Examples of possible discounts include a discounted fee for a service or product, a percentage off the total bill, a weekly special, or a free item with purchase. 

The county will provide a window decal identifying the business as a participant in this program. Additionally, the business name, address and discount details will be listed on Chemung County’s website and a printed list will be distributed to the county’s returning veterans. Involvement in the program is beneficial to businesses that will undoubtedly realize increased traffic and sales.

The identification card, issued by the County Clerk’s office at no fee to the Veteran, contains valid service information. Veterans can obtain the photo ID card at the Chemung County Clerk’s office.
