News“2010 Chemung County Mark Twain Games Calendar of Events Announced” Senior Games Registrations Now Being Accepted Wednesday, March 03, 2010 Elmira- Are you going through Olympics withdrawal? If you’re at least 50 years old, help is on the horizon! Registrations are now being accepted for the 2010 Mark Twain Country Games. Formerly the Chemung County Senior Games, the Games are opened to anyone age 50 and over, with ribbons awarded to the three top finishers in 8 age brackets. There is a $15 registration fee with additional fees for certain events. Over 550 athletes, ranging in age from 50-95, are expected to compete in various athletic events from May 8 to May 22 – everything from bowling to softball to bocce to volleyball to cycling to name a few. The public is invited to attend Opening Ceremonies at Horseheads High School on Saturday, May 8th with a Parade of Athletes at 10:00 a.m. Track and field events will begin right after our Opening Ceremonies. This is the first year that track and field is being held on a weekend to enable more of the working public to have an opportunity to compete. The Games are presented by the Chemung County Department of Aging and Long Term Care in cooperation with its generous sponsors: Meineke Car Care Center, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield of Central New York Southern Tier Region, Simmons-Rockwell, Chemung Canal Trust Company, ArnotHealth, A.L. George, and the Local Chapter of AARP. Click on Online Forms at chemungcounty.com for a complete Schedule of Events and to download an application and registration form. The registration deadline is Monday, April 12th. For more information, contact Angie Cavaluzzi, Senior Games Coordinator, at 607-737-5520. |
