“County Board of Elections Receives Grant”

ELMIRA – The Chemung County Board of Elections has received a grant from the Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund through the New York State Education Department in the amount of $53,440.  The grant will be used to purchase scanning equipment, to contract with Southern Tier Industries for scanning services, and to purchase additional modules for the existing County records management and imaging system.

The County currently maintains over 236,000 active voter registration cards which will be scanned and indexed into the system. New cards will be scanned as they come into the office. Once scanned, images of the cards will be accessible through the Board’s existing voter registration database. “The new system will eliminate the need to manually search for cards adding security and integrity to our voter registration system,” said Marilyn O’Mara, Republican Commissioner. “We were very happy to receive this needed funding as only 30% of all grant applicants received awards,” added Keith Osborne, Democratic Commissioner.
