Age-Friendly Chemung County Business & Organization Designation Applications Available


Age-Friendly Chemung County, a coalition-backed initiative that promotes healthy and active living for people of all ages, is currently accepting applications for its Age-Friendly Business and Organization Designation program.  This program encourages and recognizes local businesses and not-for-profit organizations who are striving to provide easy-to-navigate, respectful, positive and effective experiences and services to our community. Age-Friendly Designation reflects support for the vision of Chemung County as a community that encourages active and healthy living and provides a more accessible, affordable and socially engaging place for people of all ages.

Chemung County became the first upstate New York community to be admitted into the Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities in December of 2012. The Age-Friendly Business and Organization Designation Program began in 2016 and the following Chemung County businesses and organizations have been designated Age-Friendly: Able2, AIM Independent Living Center, Appleridge Senior Living, The Arc of Chemung, Arnot Health, Bethany Village, CareFirst, Caregivers, Center for Disability Rights, Chemung Canal Trust Company, Chemung County Library District, Classic Café, Community Arts of Elmira, Community Dispute Resolution Center, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chemung County, Corning Community College Academic and Workforce Development Center, C TRAN, D-‘s Pierogi Place, Elmira Chapter 276 AARP New York, Family Home Care Services, First Presbyterian Church of Elmira, Gerould’s Professional Pharmacies, Horseheads Family Resource Center, Kingsbury’s Cyclery, Meals on Wheels of Chemung County, Inc., New Beginnings United Methodist Church, Valicenti Insurance Agency, Wallin Insurance Agency, Walter J. Kent Funeral Home and Woodbrook Assisted Living Residence. 

Achievement of Age-Friendly Designation is recognized by a certificate, decals for marketing purposes, and promotion on the Age-Friendly Chemung County website and Facebook page. Designees will be recognized at the Chemung County Department of Aging and Long Term Care Public Hearing on September 13th.  The Senior Notebook TV show is also planning to air interviews with several Age-Friendly Businesses and Organizations.
