Board Of Elections Home



The last day to register to vote for the November 3rd General Election
is October 9, 2015.

Residents may register in any one of the following manners:

   In person at the Board of Elections office at 378 S. Main Street, Elmira
   In person at most County Agencies 
   Pick up a form at any Town and Village Clerks offices, Banks, Post Offices 
   Download a form at Go to Departments> Board of Elections> How to Register

If mailing a registration form it must be post marked by October 9, 2015 and received by the Board of Elections no later than October 14th.

The Chemung County Board of Elections will extend office hours for registered voters wishing to obtain an absentee ballot for the November 3rd, 2015 General Election.  Regular office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM. The extended hours are listed below:
               Tuesday, October 20th until 7:00 pm

               Thursday, October 22nd until 7:00 pm

               Saturday, October 24th from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon
               Monday, October 26th until 7:00 pm

               Wednesday, October 28th until 7:00 pm

               Saturday, October 31st from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon

The Chemung County Board of Elections is responsible for administering all aspects of elections in the County including all national, state, county, city and town elections.   The office duties and responsibilities are mandated by New York State Election Law and rules and regulations are defined by the New York State Board of Elections.   The Board provides election supplies to villages, fire districts and school districts which conduct their own elections, registers eligible citizens to vote, performs various public education services, provides pertinent information to the candidates seeking an elective office, and accepts and rules on petitions.

The Chemung County Board of Elections is administered by two Election Commissioners who are elected by the county committees of their respective political party and their appointments are approved by the County Legislature.   Each Commissioner is assisted by a Deputy Commissioner and office staff.
