Extended Hours for the Board of Elections
October 13, 2017 is the last day to register to vote in person for the November 7th General Election.
The Board of Elections will be opened additional hours to allow voters to obtain an absentee ballot for the November 7th General Election.Voters may obtain an absentee ballot by calling the Board of Elections at 607-737-5475 or visiting the office located at 378 S. Main Street in Elmira. Regular office hours are Monday thru Friday from 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM. The extended office hours are as follows:
Tuesday, October 24th until 7:00 PM
Thursday, October 26th until 7:00 PM
Saturday, October 28th from 9:00 AM until 12:00 noon
Monday, October 30th until 7:00 PM
Wednesday, November 1st until 7:00 PM
Saturday, November 4th from 9:00 AM until 12:00 noon
The Chemung County Board of Elections is responsible for administering all aspects of elections in the County including all national, state, county, city and town elections. The office duties and responsibilities are mandated by New York State Election Law and rules and regulations are defined by the New York State Board of Elections. The Board provides election supplies to villages, fire districts and school districts which conduct their own elections, registers eligible citizens to vote, performs various public education services, provides pertinent information to the candidates seeking an elective office, and accepts and rules on petitions.
The Chemung County Board of Elections is administered by two Election Commissioners who are elected by the county committees of their respective political party and their appointments are approved by the County Legislature. Each Commissioner is assisted by a Deputy Commissioner and office staff.
