"AIM Independent Living Center will present on Autism Awareness at the Elmira Corning Regional Airport (ELM)"
BIG FLATS - AIM Independent Living Center will conduct an outreach presentation on Autism Awareness Wednesday, November 7, 2012 from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. at the Elmira Corning Regional Airport Conference Room.
The presentation will offer ELM and their support staff the opportunity to increase their level of awareness in the community concerning those individuals with Autism and Autism related disabilities.
"The goal of this outreach is to enlighten airport personnel to the unique challenges faced by those with a diagnosis of Autism. The outreach also provides an increased awareness in a crisis or emergency situation that supports a person with Autism," said Wendy Watkins, AIM's Transitions Advocate and outreach presenter.
Ann Crook, Airport Manager said, "We have made special arrangements with AIM Independent Living Center to offer a unique training to all of our employees at the airport. It will focus on the special needs of our passengers living with Autism Spectrum Disorder and how we can help make their travel experience positive. The timing for this session is ideal as we prepare for the busy holiday season."
