Tuesday, October 2, 2012
Big Flats- Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli and Elmira Corning Regional Airport Director of Aviation Ann Crook announce two construction projects which are currently underway at the airport.
Construction of a passenger canopy over the entrance to the airport terminal will provide passengers with a covered area out of the elements in the passenger loading and unloading zone. During construction the entire front curb of the terminal will be closed, as well as the main entrance door. Passengers may use the west door in front of the airline ticket counters or the east door at baggage claim.
Passengers are advised to watch for traffic control devices and flaggers when approaching the terminal. As always, vehicles may not be left unattended.
The second project is the expansion of the Economy Parking Lot. During construction the Economy Lot will be closed. Both projects are scheduled to be completed by the end of October.
Passengers are advised to plan extra time for parking and be prepared to walk a little further to the terminal during this time.
The passenger canopy project was designed by McFarland Johnson and will be constructed by Streeter Associates. The total project cost is $360,000 with $288,000 paid by a New York State Department of Transportation grant.
The Economy Parking Lot project was designed by McFarland Johnson and will be constructed by A.L. Blades. The total project cost is $383,589 with 100% of the cost paid through parking revenues.
