The Chemung County Hazard Mitigation Plan 2012 Update final draft has been completed. Interested persons have 30 days to review the plan and make comment. All comments will be reviewed for pertinence and included in the final version when appropriate.

"Mitigation" is an action that can be taken prior to a disaster to help prevent or limit damage caused by the disaster. FEMA requires all municipalities to adopt a Mitigation Plan for Natural Hazards to maintain eligibility for certain grants and funding sources.

The list of Action Items included with this plan are not all guaranteed to be completed. Many items require a funding source to be found before any effort to fulfill the action can be taken. This Action Item list is a list of suggested Mitigation Measures that may help prevent damage during a future natural disaster.
