“Certified Nurse Aide Employment Program Available for College Freshman and Sophomores”

ELMIRA – Freshman and sophomores in college are once again being offered a training opportunity in the Student Certified Nurse Aide Employment Program (SCNAEP).  The program provides students a salary while training through GST-BOCES leading to certification as a nurse aide and guaranteed summer employment at one of three local health facilities that offer up to full time employment for those enrolled in the program.

“This is a great opportunity for students in any field of study to obtain training and be guaranteed employment during the summers while in college. Many participants have worked during holiday and semester breaks also,” said Joyce Hyatt PhD, RN, director of the Chemung Valley Rural Health Network. “It provides students with hands-on training and work experience as well as a means to explore health careers. We are also building care giving skills in our community that will be valuable to an aging society.”

The SCNAEP also provides the student with a great work experience to put on their resume. Enrollment in the program is limited. So if you are a college student, apply right now for an opportunity for summer employment.

The program is in its’ seventh year, having provided training and employment to over 150 participants to date.  The program is offered in collaboration with Bethany Manor, Arnot Ogden Medical Center, St. Joseph’s Hospital, GST-BOCES, Steuben County facilities and Chemung Valley Rural Health Network.

Information and applications are available through the collaborating partners or on the web at www.cvhn.org or by calling 607-737-2826.
