“Airport Holds Meeting on Environmental Assessment”

Big Flats- Ann Crook, Manager of the Elmira Corning Regional Airport announced today Chemung County will be holding a public meeting on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. at the airport in the main lobby located at 276 Sing Sing Road in Big Flats.   The purpose of the workshop-style public information meeting is to present the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) which is being completed to review proposed airport projects identified in the Airport Master Plan and solicit public input on key issues to be considered in the EA.

The Airport Master Plan is an official FAA and NYSDOT airport planning document designed to evaluate and plan for future airport development over a 20 year period.  The EA is being prepared to evaluate the potential social, economic and environmental impacts resulting from the various projects planned in the first five years of the plan.  Projects evaluated in the EA include but are not limited to easement acquisitions at both ends of Runway 10-28 and extension of the Runway 24 end.  Extension of Runway 24 will require the installation of an engineered material arresting system but will not include a relocation of Sing Sing Creek or the realignment of Chambers Road.   

Representatives from the Airport and airport consultants McFarland Johnson, Inc. will be available at the meeting to answer questions and receive comments. Written comments on subject matter to be included in the EA should be sent to:
