“Accident at Airport Temporarily Closes Runway”

Big Flats– The Elmira Corning Regional Airport has reopened its main runway following an accident this afternoon. At approximately 12:40 pm, a single engine Cessna broke a main landing gear upon landing. The aircraft spun around and came to rest on the edge of the runway. There were two individuals on board the aircraft, the pilot and a passenger, and they were not injured.  The aircraft sustained moderate damage and was removed by airport personnel and Dave’s Towing Specialists.

The FAA is investigating the accident. Airport personnel were also assisted by the Airport Task Force of mutual aid fire departments. The main runway was closed for approximately two hours with air traffic diverted to a secondary runway.
