News“Elmira Corning Regional Airport Receives Grant” Thursday, October 09, 2008 Big Flats – The Elmira Corning Regional Airport (ELM) will receive $600,000 in grant funding from the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). The announcement was made October 2, 2008 by NYSDOT Commissioner Astrid C. Glynn in conjunction with approval for more than $20.4 million in grants for aviation capital projects across New York State. The funding, primarily from the Renew and Rebuild New York Transportation Bond Act of 2005, will support infrastructure, security, and economic development projects at 48 public-use airports in the state. The funding will be used for snow removal equipment and a passenger canopy at the Elmira Corning Regional Airport. “This funding will provide for much needed equipment which will enhance safety for our passengers and air carriers which is vitally important to maintaining a healthy airport,” said Ann Crook, ELM manager. Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli added, “We are pleased the State recognizes the need to invest in modern, secure air travel. Improving efficiency and safety at our airport assures our ability to continue to provide reliable, quality air service to our residents and the business community.” In the past year, ELM has experienced significant infrastructure improvements including the extension of the main runway, the addition of runway centerline lighting which provides increased visibility during takeoffs and landings, terminal improvements, and an overhaul of the parking lot which is currently being completed. |
