“Airport Year-End Figures Up”

BIG FLATS – Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli reported today both airline passenger numbers and airport revenue totals for 2007 are up over last years figures. The number of passengers flying out of the Elmira Corning Regional Airport in 2007 was 20% higher than the number in 2006. 99,422 passengers flew out of the airport in 2007 compared to 83,026 in 2006.  Airport revenues totaled $2,233,554 in 2007, representing the highest figure seen at the airport in over ten years.

“Flying into and out of the Elmira Corning Regional Airport becomes more convenient and cost effective everyday,” said Tom Santulli, Chemung County Executive. “Our airfares are becoming increasingly more competitive with the larger regional airports.  Add to that the savings in gasoline prices to Rochester and Syracuse and lower parking fees and ELM is the logical choice.  In addition to the improvements that have been made to the airport in the past few years, including extending the runway and centerline lighting, the completion of the I-86 Horseheads by-pass makes regional use of the airport even more appealing. As our airport and terminal complete further upgrades I expect this trend to continue. We are actively pursuing additional airline service opportunities and destinations to provide even more alternatives for our business and leisure travelers,” Santulli added.

“Revenues at our airport, like all airports nationwide, experienced a sharp decline following 9/11,” said Ann Crook, Manager of the Elmira Corning Regional Airport. “Revenues have been steadily increasing after reaching a low of $1,879,474 in 2003. ELM is now back on track and has rebounded from the devastating effects of this national tragedy.”
