“County Health Department Receives Performance Award”
Tuesday, October 18, 2016
ELMIRA – The Chemung County Health Department has been awarded a Performance Incentive Initiative Award of $32,000 from the New York State Health Department for their outstanding success of its Environmental Health Services and Public Health Clinic in meeting performance measures for the 2015-2016 period.
Chemung County was one of only two counties in all of New York State to receive the highest possible score of 100 based upon the following criteria:
• 75% of the award was based on the performance of Environmental Health Services in submitting health inspections electronically under a new state-mandated system
• 25% of the award was based on the performance of the Public Health Clinic in providing testing and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases
Environmental Health Services is under the direction and supervision of Tom Kump and Pete Buzzetti while the Public Health Clinic is supervised by Rebecca Becraft. Said Robert Page, Public Health Director, “I would like to commend them and their staff for doing a truly outstanding job in meeting the rigorous requirements for the incentive awards. These awards are a tribute to their dedication and commitment.”
The Health Department plans to utilize some of the funding to purchase all the necessary computers, printers, and other electronic equipment to conduct “paperless” clinics through electronic registration and documentation. Some of the areas where this system will be useful are public rabies vaccination clinics for pets and large scale immunization clinics for the public, especially in a public health emergency. This kind of system speeds up the processing of clinic visits to get people, or pets, through faster while providing a readily accessible data system for immunization records and vaccination certificates.
Added Robert Page, “Here in Chemung County we always strive to provide the best environmental health services in all of New York State and this recognition for our accomplishments is truly appreciated. I’m very proud of our staff for the diligence they have shown in the performance of their work. It’s great to receive a “pat on the back” for a job well done, but in this case we are also bringing a financial award back to Chemung County that will only enhance our efforts to better serve our community.”
