“Chemung County Recognizes September as National Preparedness Month”
Don’t Wait, Communicate. Make Your Emergency Plan Today

ELMIRA – September is recognized as National Preparedness Month and Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli, along with the Office of Fire and Emergency Management, and the County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Committee want to remind residents that we all must take action to prepare, now and throughout the year, for the types of emergencies that could affect us where we live, work, and also where we visit.

Throughout the month, the County will offer residents tools to prepare themselves, family, friends, and their community for emergencies and disasters through Facebook and Twitter and their mobile application CHEMUNG CO. NY EMERGENCY ALERT/PREPARE.

In addition to getting information from the County on emergencies and preparedness, social media followers will be asked to share information which will be used to test the system for when a real emergency occurs.  In the event of an emergency situation, community members can share information and photos of weather events, downed trees and power lines, road blockages, and reports of damage. This can help first responders to ascertain the on-the-ground reality of a situation in real-time to assist in coordinating the response effort.
