Three Employers Are Introducing a New Way to Work by Offering 511NY Southern Tier Rideshare

Chemung and Steuben Counties are excited to announce that The Arc of Chemung, the Arc of Steuben, and Elcor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center have partnered with 511NY Southern Tier Rideshare to assist with their employee’s commuting needs by adding Employee Rideshare Portals.   Each employer has created customized web sites that link employees with the New York State Department of Transportation’s 511NY statewide Rideshare system and carpool matching database.

Commuters who live or work in the Counties can register in the free, easy-to-use, online ridematching system to find others who live and work near them, with similar schedules, to match with and share rides. Also, the system has an events feature that can coordinate employee rides to out of town conferences, saving employers on travel costs.

The 511 NY Southern Tier Rideshare is a free service that is available to anyone that works or resides in Chemung or Steuben counties.  Tina Hager, Chemung County Transit Specialist, is Project Director for the 511NY Southern Tier Rideshare program. She noted that the more people who register in the system, the better are everyone’s chances of finding others to share rides to work.  “The 511NY Southern Tier Rideshare project began in 2014, and registrants in the system work for both large and small employers in the Southern Tier. It is our hope that both residents and employers will continue to embrace this easy, sustainable transportation solution," she said.

There are numerous benefits to carpooling, including: saving money, decreasing vehicle wear and tear, gaining time to read, work, or relax and reducing air pollution. More information is available on SouthernTierRideshare.com or call “511” and say “Rideshare”.
