Twin Tiers Breastfeeding Network Receives State Grant

Elmira - The Twin Tiers Breastfeeding Network is pleased to announce it has received a $300 grant award from the New York Statewide Breastfeeding Coalition (NYSBC).  The grant award was received to help promote World Breastfeeding Week (August 1 -7) and ongoing efforts to increase breastfeeding rates.  The mission of the NYSBC is to improve the health of New Yorkers by working collaboratively to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding as the norm in New York State.  This ties in nicely with the local efforts of the Twin Tiers Breastfeeding Network’s mission of working to improve the rates of initiation and duration of breastfeeding among women in the Twin Tiers through support, education and referrals.

For World Breastfeeding Week the Twin Tiers Breastfeeding Network (TTBN) is accepting nominations for the 11th annual Breastfeeding Friendly Awards.  These awards recognize businesses, individuals, and organizations for their valuable support of breastfeeding mothers.  Eligible nominees should provide support and make it easy for women to breastfeed.  This might include supporting moms return to work and making it easy for them to continue nursing their infants by maintaining policies that accommodate breastfeeding moms, offering flexible schedules and providing private spaces for feeding and pumping milk.  Nominees will be honored during World Breastfeeding Week at a ceremony in Wisner Park in August.

The Twin Tiers Breastfeeding Network is a collaboration consisting of representatives from many local agencies including Arnot Health, Chemung County Health Dept., C.I.D.S., Mothers & Babies, Southern Tier Pediatrics, and the WIC program. They were established almost 20 years ago and meet once a month at the Women’s Health Center.

The Breastfeeding Award nomination form can be found online at www.chemungcountyhealth.org or on the Chemung County Health Dept. Facebook page. TODAY is the final day to submit nominations. For more information, contact Pat Tremaine at ptremaine@co.chemung.ny.us or call 607-737-2899.
