Veteran- The New York State Department of Transportation today announced that work will begin Monday, June 20, 2016, on state Route 14 in the town of Veteran, Chemung County. The duration of the contract is expected to last approximately four months, with a completion date of November 1, 2016.
The project will consist of replacing the existing structure with a new precast box structure through stage construction. While this work is taking place, all traffic will be maintained with a single lane closure on state Route 14 controlled by a temporary traffic signal.
Work will be restricted the weekend of July 1-5 for the July 4 holiday, August 4-7, 2016 for the NASCAR event at Watkins Glen International, and September 2-6, 2016 for the Labor Day holiday. The construction contractor for this project is Economy Paving Co., Inc of Cortland, NY.
Motorists may encounter flaggers, lane closures and could experience travel delays. It is imperative that motorists remember this season to drive carefully through the many highway and bridge construction zones they will encounter.
Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
