“Chemung County Senior Games Get Underway With Softball Tournament”

Horseheads – The 2016 Chemung County Senior Games begin Wednesday, May 11th with a 70+ Softball Tournament.  Seven teams are competing, including teams from Binghamton, Owego and Cortland.  The tournament begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Town of Horseheads Sports Complex off Wygant Road.  The 55+ Softball Tournaments will be held Thursday of this week with six teams competing from Elmira, Binghamton, Ithaca, and the Cortland areas.

486 athletes competed in last year’s Senior Games. This year’s games will include athletes competing in a variety of games such as such as golf, bowling, archery, miniature golf, track and field, pickleball and bocce. 

The games will officially open on Saturday, May 14th with ceremonies at Horseheads High School beginning at 10:00am with the Parade of Athletes. Arnot Health Registered Nurses will be onsite to provide free blood pressure screens, stroke prevention tips, free medication list pocket cards and health tips from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Events run through May 25th and culminate with a banquet for participating athletes at Appleridge Senior Living on May 26th .

Limited number of openings still available for the Wednesday, May 18th golf event and the track and field events on Opening Day, Saturday, May 14th.
