Elmira—At a press conference held at The Arc of Chemung today, Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli and C TRAN General Manager Karen McKinley announced that C TRAN has taken delivery of three new ARBOC Spirit of Mobility buses that will be put into service this month. The ARBOC Spirit of Mobility is a low floor bus with a kneeling feature and an accessible ramp. Like all of C TRAN’s fleet, the buses provide excellent accessibility for people with disabilities. C TRAN expects to use the new buses on both fixed route and for Access Chemung, a grant-funded Dial A Ride program.
“Every day C TRAN transports people to jobs, doctor’s appointments, shopping, and other services. Through this bus purchase, Chemung County continues to support safe, reliable transit service that means quality of life and independence for residents, especially for seniors and people with disabilities,” said Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli. Referring to recent coordinated projects between Chemung County transit staff and The Arc of Chemung, Family Support Director Craig Mennig said, “The partnerships we have developed will significantly improve access to transportation options for the people we support. We are thrilled to be coordinating transportation services for individuals who are elderly or disabled living in Chemung County. It is critical that all people have access to transportation so they can attend appointments and maintain meaningful relationships.”
The 21 passenger buses will be utilized throughout the C TRAN service area including Access Chemung which is a private pay option for seniors 60 and older or a person with a disability who need an accessible vehicle to get to employment or non-Medicaid medical appointments. Access Chemung is also available to local human services agencies who would like to partner to meet their transportation needs. Access Chemung provides transportation to Chemung County residents to destinations within Chemung County and to nearby Guthrie facilities.
